Fill out this course evaluation. This feedback is very helpful as we fine tine Bio 301.

For May - our last class of the semester

  • Look over the new GRE resources added to the bottom of the right sidebar
  • Submit in Angel the URL for your LinkedIn profile
  • Search LinkedIn to identify at least one person that you could contact for networking and information about your future career(s). Feel free to join the Ashland Science group and search people with an AU connection.

For Apr 19
  • Use this key for your practice GRE test to check your answers.
  • Submit on Angel a Word or PDF document indicating which GRE practice questions you answered correctly and incorrectly. Use the practice test information to calculate your GRE score and not it in your document.

For Apr 12 - Lindsey Knapp will be visiting to talk about the GRE
  • Read over this page on preparing for the newly revised GRE exam
  • Use this link to access a short, practice GRE and answer questions in the verbal and quantitative reasoning sections. There are 20 questions on each section.

  • Write a draft of a cover letter and bring two hard copies to class
  • Look over graduate school wiki page
  • Keep working on LinkedIn profile page. Start building your network.

For Feb 28
  • Submit a revised copy of your resume in Angel by the end of Thursday using the advice we covered in class this past week. Also bring two hard copies of your resume to class.
  • If you missed this past Friday’s class watch the recording of our video visit from Cathy Posner. The video starts about 5 minutes into class, and you may need to download a free viewer to see it.
  • Bring a laptop to class this Friday if you can. We will be working on LinkedIn profiles.
  • Check out the LinkedIn for Students section on the LinkedIn blog.


For Feb 20
  • Submit a copy of your new resume in Angel - this is two days before class so that our guest next week can look them over

For Feb 15
  • Submit your career choice assignment on Angel - you will find a dropbox in the content section
  • Be ready to discuss your assignment with the class
  • Read Chapter 1 of The Start up of You using the look inside feature on Amazon

For Feb 8
  • Research at least three areas for your career choice assignment and bring your notes to class for discussion. The complete assignment will be due on Angel Feb 15th
  • Watch Steve Jobs commencement address at Stanford in 2005 (14:34)

For Feb 1
  • Read the Career Match chapter for your personality color mix and fill out the lists in Chapter 28 (handed out in class). Three copies of the book will be sitting on the shelf of Kettering 302 by the front door. Bring your list to our next class and be ready to share.
  • Check out the biological scientists page from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • Read the Introduction to College Grad Seeks Future and be ready to discuss next week. A pdf of the chapter can be found here.

Next week we will start an assignment that will allow you to explore possible career options.


For Jan 25
  • Take at least three of the self assessment tests using Eagle Exploration on the AU Career Services website. The access code to make an account is “tuffy”. See if you think their personality assessment is accurate, and check out their suggested careers.
  • Do these assessments fit the career choices your are thinking about?
  • Read over the career page from the American Institute of Biological Sciences to get a sense of the diversity of biology career options.
